Farm Crew Member

White Oak Farm is hiring a part time Farm Crew Member to live and work at the Farm beginning Fall 2022.  We are an organic farm and environmental education center located on 62 acres in the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon.  We are looking for an experienced farmer/handy-person to join our staff for the year and possibly beyond.  The position will be available Fall of 2022 and includes work-trade housing on the Farm.  We are looking for folks that are passionate about organic farming and homesteading, and bring a hard work ethic, attention to detail, and positive attitude to their work.

Experience for the position should include living and working on an organic farm and competence with most aspects of production.  White Oak is a diverse operation, with annual vegetables, seed crops, fruit trees and berries, animals, a native plant nursery, as well as a robust children’s education program.  The position will have opportunities to be involved in all aspects of our work, with an emphasis on: seeding, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, weed-whacking and mowing, animal care (including goat milking), harvest, seed processing, nursery work, farm carpentry, eco-forestry, and environmental education.  The position includes shared responsibility for animal and irrigation chores, as well as occasional farm caretaking while other staff are away  We are looking for an individual (or a couple) with the ability to communicate clearly and maturely; self-motivate; and work efficiently.  Compensation includes a competitive hourly wage based on experience; access to farm fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, cheese and meat; and use of Farm facilities such as ponds, trails and a sauna. We also have work-trade housing available in a straw bale cabin. The position has flexible part time hours.  Pay is $16-$20/hr based on experience.

Garden Educator – POSITION FILLED

White Oak Farm is currently hiring an experienced outdoor educator for a flexible hours position starting Fall 2022. The Garden Educator will work in three local school gardens and on the Farm.  The position includes creating curriculum, managing and maintaining the school gardens, working with students, and helping deliver programs at the Farm.  Programs at the Farm include: school field day trips, farm camps, and overnight school field trips.  If the applicant has farming, handy-person, and other land-based skills there is the possibility of full-time work, and potentially on-site housing on the Farm.

White Oak Farm is a 62 acre non-profit organic Farm and Education Center in Williams, Oregon that has been delivering programs and produce locally for 20 years.  We are passionate about sustainability, organic farming, natural building, equal rights, and the Earth.  Alongside delivering education programs, we also grow seeds for seed companies, operate a native plant nursery, grow food for food banks, and run a small goat dairy.

We are looking for land-based, energetic, creative, self-motivated, positive people that are clear communicators.  To thrive in this position an applicant must be confident with large groups of children, organized, and fun!  Applicants must also meet covid vaccine requirements for working in schools in the State of Oregon. The position is offered for two years, with the understanding that both White Oak Farm and the Educator will make every effort to fulfill this time commitment as long as it is working for both parties.  Pay is $18-$20/hr based on experience.
