Children's Education

White Oak Farm Children's EducationWhite Oak Farm offers a unique combination of academic and experiential learning to children from 1st-12th grades. During school visits and summer farm camps, children spend time in a living laboratory of gardens, fields, orchards and forests. In the context of work and observation they study traditional academic subjects, learn the skills of life on a small farm, and deepen their connections to each other and the earth.

Our approach to education is rooted in interdisciplinary, experiential, and holistic learning as we seek to actively engage students in interactions with plants, animals, and each other. We place value on time spent outdoors and learning based on active participation in real tasks. By giving children the responsibilities of the work of the farm, they can take real pride in their role in putting food on the tables of local families. We also encourage students to help direct their own learning process. By seeking out what interests them on the farm, by making observations, and by sharing their insights with fellow students and teachers, children become their own educators. Our Children's Education Programs emphasize relationships in natural systems and promote this same connectivity between students.
