A Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) grows in the foreground. Locusts are native to the eastern United States, but are naturalized throughout much of the west. They are great trees since they tolerate drought, establish quickly, fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil, provide bountiful nectar for honeybees and beautiful flowers for all, and make excellent fence posts. The Black Locust is a classic Permaculture plant given its many attributes and uses.
